Indian Army Invites Applications for 138th Technical Graduate Course for Male Engineering Graduates

The Indian Army has released an official notification inviting applications from eligible unmarried Male Engineering Graduates for the 138th Technical Graduate Course (TGC-138). The course is set to commence in January 2024 at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, and successful candidates will be inducted into the Indian Army on a Permanent Commission basis.

Candidates who are interested in applying for the TGC-138 course can do so by visiting the official website of the Indian Army and filling in the application form before the last date of submission. The application process is entirely online, and candidates must ensure that they fill in all the required details accurately.

The eligibility criteria for the TGC-138 course require the candidates to be unmarried Male Engineering Graduates. Candidates must have passed the relevant engineering degree course with at least 60% marks or equivalent from a recognized university or institute. Additionally, candidates must be between the age group of 20 to 27 years at the time of commencement of the course.

The selection process for the TGC-138 course includes a written examination, a medical examination, and an interview. Candidates who qualify in the written examination will be called for the medical examination and subsequently for the interview. The final selection will be based on the candidate's performance in all three stages of the selection process.

Selected candidates will undergo training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, for a duration of one year, after which they will be commissioned into the Indian Army as Lieutenant. The TGC-138 course is an excellent opportunity for young engineering graduates to serve the country and make a meaningful contribution to society. Nationality	A candidate must either be a citizen of India A subject of Nepal A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Certificate of Eligibility	Candidates belonging to categories (ii) and (iii) above are required to have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. A candidate who is a Gorkha subject of Nepal does not require a certificate of eligibility. Candidates who require a certificate of eligibility must attach it with their application.

Age Limit :

Age Limit	Candidates must be between 20 to 27 years old as of 01 Jan 2024. Candidates must have been born between 02 Jan 1997 and 01 Jan 2004 (inclusive). The age will be calculated based on the date of birth recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary School Examination Certificate or an Equivalent Examination Certificate on the date of submission of application. No other document relating to age will be accepted. No subsequent request for change of age will be considered or granted.

Educational Qualification :

Educational Qualification for Applying
Candidates who have passed the requisite Engineering Degree course or are in the final year of Engineering Degree course are eligible to apply. Candidates studying in the final year of engineering degree course should be able to submit proof of passing Engineering Degree Examination along with marksheets of all semesters/years by 01 Jan 2024 and produce the Engineering Degree Certificate within 12 weeks from the date of commencement of training at Indian Military Academy (IMA). Such candidates will be inducted on Additional Bond Basis for recovery of the cost of training at Indian Military Academy (IMA) as notified from time to time as well as stipend and pay & allowances paid, in case they fail to produce the requisite degree certificate.
Note-1. ALL FINAL YEAR APPEARING CANDIDATES WHOSE FINAL YEAR/FINAL SEMESTER EXAM WILL BE SCHEDULED AFTER 01 JAN 2024 ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THIS COURSE. Candidates, who have yet to pass their degree examination will be eligible only if they are studying in the final year of degree examination. Those candidates who have yet to qualify in the final year Degree Examination and are allowed to appear for SSB, should note that this is only a special concession given to them. They are required to submit proof of passing Engineering Degree Examination along with all marksheets towards the Engineering Degree Examination by the above prescribed date and no request for extending this date will be entertained on the grounds of late conduct of basic qualifying University Examination, delay in declaration of results or any other grounds whatsoever.
Note-2. For induction to Pre Commission Training Academy, after final selection, the minimum educational qualification is passing BE/B.Tech degree in the Engineering streams notified below at Para 3. To become eligible for induction into TGC-138 course at Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun, candidates studying in final year of engineering are required to submit proof of passing Engineering Degree Examination along with marksheets of all semesters/years by 01 Jan 2024 to Directorate General of Recruiting and ensure that the cumulative percentage of marks upto final semester/year is not less than the approved cut off percentage, failing which the candidature will be cancelled.
Note-3. Final semester/year studying candidates will be provisionally allowed to appear in SSB; subject to following conditions:-
(a) Their cumulative percentage of marks upto 6th semester/3rd year of Engineering degree, upto 8th semester/4th year of B. Architecture (B.Arch) and upto 2nd semester/1st year of M.Sc in notified equivalent stream/ discipline is not below the approved cut off percentage in their respective streams.
(b) After declaration of final results, the cumulative percentage of marks upto final semester/year of degree course will also be not less than the approved cut off percentage, failing which the candidature will be cancelled.
Note-4. Candidates studying in final year/semester of Engineering degree course should not have any backlog at the time of submission of application. Any candidate if found having backlog will not be allowed to appear in SSB interview and candidature of such candidates will be cancelled.

Type of Commission :

Type of Commission	Details
Grant of Commission	Selected candidates will be granted Short Service Commission on probation in the rank of Lieutenant from the date of commencement of the course.
	They will be entitled to full pay and allowances admissible to Lieutenant during the training period. Pay & allowances will be paid after successful completion of training.
Permanent Commission	On successful completion of training, cadets will be granted Permanent Commission in the Army in the rank of Lieutenant.
Ante Date Seniority	Engineering Graduates of TGC Entry in the rank of Lieutenant will be granted one year ante date seniority from the date of commission.

Training :

Training	Details
Selected candidates' training location	Indian Military Academy, Dehradun
Order of merit	Candidates will be detailed for training according to their position in the final order of merit (engineering stream-wise) up to the number of available vacancies.
Eligibility criteria	Candidates must meet all eligibility criteria to be detailed for training.
Duration of training	49 weeks
Marital status during training	Candidates will not be allowed to marry during the period of training, nor will they be allowed to live with their parents/guardians.
Prohibition on marrying during training	Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. If a candidate marries while under training, they will be discharged.
Liability for expenses if discharged due to marrying during training	Candidates who are discharged due to marriage during training will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on them by the government.
Marriage after application and prior to training	Candidates who marry subsequent to the date of their application, though successful at the Service Selection Board interview and medical examination, will not be inducted for training.

Cost of Training :

Cost of Training	Details
Who pays for training	The entire cost of training at Indian Military Academy (IMA) is at government expense.
Liability for refunding training costs	If a Gentleman Cadet is withdrawn from the training academy due to reasons other than medical grounds or reasons not beyond their control, they will be liable to refund the cost of training.
Amount to be refunded	The cost of training is currently ₹ 15055/- (as of 2022) per week, and will be notified from time to time.
Period for which refund is applicable	The cost of training will be recovered for the period of the candidate's stay at the IMA, Dehradun.
Who bears the cost of training if withdrawn for personal reasons	The cost of training, which is borne by the state, will be recovered from candidates withdrawing for personal reasons.

	- Fill the online registration form.
	- Click 'Apply Online' under the dashboard.
	- Click 'Apply' shown against Technical Graduate Course.
	- Fill in details under personal information, communication details, education details, and details
	of previous SSB.
	- Check the information for correctness and click 'Submit'.
	- Take out two copies of the application after final closure of online application on the last day.
(b)	Documents to be carried to the selection center:
	- One copy of the application duly signed and affixed with a self-attested photograph.
	- Matriculation/Secondary School Examination certificate or equivalent certificate and marksheet.
	- 12th class marksheet and certificate or equivalent certificate/Diploma marksheet and certificate.
	- Engineering Degree/Provisional Degree issued by the recognized university.
	- Marksheets of all semesters/years.
	- Certificate issued by the Controller of Examination/Registrar of the concerned University.
	- Certificate from the Principal/Head of the Institution stating that the candidate is studying in
	the final year.
	- Declaration by the candidate of the final year Engineering degree course.
	- Self-attested copies of all documents along with their originals.
(c)	Candidates who do not carry the required documents for the SSB interview will have their
	candidature cancelled.
(d)	All certificates in original to be carried by the candidates for SSB Interview for verification.
	Originals will be returned after verification at the Service Selection Board itself.
(e)	The second copy of the printout of the online application is to be retained by the candidate for
	reference.
(f)	Candidates must submit only one online application. Multiple applications will result in the
	cancellation of candidature. No representation will be entertained in this regard.
(g)	Candidates serving in the Armed Forces must inform their Commanding Officer before applying.

Provisional Selection for SSB	Final semester/year studying candidates will be provisionally allowed to appear in SSB subject to the following conditions: (i) Their cumulative percentage of marks upto 6th semester/3rd year of Engg degree, upto 8th semester/4th year of B. Architecture (B.Arch) and upto 2nd semester/1st year of M.Sc in notified equivalent stream/discipline is not below the approved cut off percentage in their respective streams. (ii) After declaration of final results, the cumulative percentage of marks upto final semester/year of degree course will also be not less than the approved cut off percentage, failing which the candidature will be cancelled.

Selection Procedure

Architecture (B.Arch) and upto 2nd semester/1st year of M.Sc in notified equivalent stream/discipline is not below the approved cut off percentage in their respective streams. (ii) After declaration of final results, the cumulative percentage of marks upto final semester/year of degree course will also be not less than the approved cut off percentage, failing which the candidature will be cancelled.
(b) Centre Allotment	After shortlisting of applications, the centre allotment will be intimated to the candidate via their email. After allotment of Selection Centre, candidates will have to login to the website and select their SSB dates which are available on a first come first serve basis initially. Thereafter, it will be allotted by the Selection Centres. The option to select the dates for SSB by candidates may be forfeited due to occurrence of any exceptional circumstance/events.
	Only shortlisted eligible candidates depending on the cutoff percentage will be interviewed at one of the Selection Centres viz. Allahabad (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Kapurthala (Punjab) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer. Call Up letter for SSB interview will be issued by respective Selection Centres through candidate’s registered e-mail id and SMS only. Allotment of Selection Centre is at the discretion of Directorate General of Recruiting, IHQ MoD (Army) and NO request for changes are entertained in this regard.
(c) Two Stage Selection Procedure	Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure. Those who clear Stage-1 will go to Stage-2. Those who fail in Stage-1 will be returned on the same day. Duration of SSB interviews is five days, and details of the same are available at official website of Directorate General of Recruiting www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. This will be followed by a medical examination for the candidates who get recommended after Stage 2.
(d) Medical Examination	Please visit www.joinindianarmy.nic.in for Medical Standards and Procedures of Medical Examination for Officers Entry into Army as applicable. Note 1. The proceedings of the Medical Board are confidential and will not be divulged to anyone. Directorate General of Recruiting has no role to play in any Medical Boards and procedure advised by the Competent Medical Authorities will be strictly adhered.
(e) Travelling Allowance	Candidates appearing for SSB interview for the first time for a particular type of commission shall be entitled for AC-III Tier to and fro Railway fare or Bus fare including reservation cum sleeper charges within the Indian limits. Candidates who apply again for the same type of commission will NOT be entitled to travelling allowance on any subsequent occasion. For any query/clarification regarding admissibility or payment of Travelling Allowance, the candidates may directly approach the concerned Selection Centres.
(f) Merit List	It is to be noted that mere qualifying at the SSB Interview does not confirm final selection. Merit list will be prepared engineering stream/subject

Note	Information
Note 1	Any ambiguity/ false information/ concealment of information detected in the certificates/ documents/ online application will result in cancellation of the candidature at any stage of selection and thereafter.
Note 2	The candidate should have never been debarred from appearing in any examination by UPSC.
Note 3	The candidate should have never been arrested or convicted by a criminal court or involved in any case. In case any such issue comes to notice during the selection process or pre-commission training, candidate/ cadet will be subject to cancellation of candidature/ withdrawl from the Academy by IHQ of MoD (Army).
